Well the tractor is completely tore down , all gears out . Counter shaft first gear completely destroyed. First gear top shaft chipped. Obviously replacing both and both bearings. Trying to figure out what caused this. Also is there any other parts that should be renewed . Brakes look good ,all the other bearings look good . Thanks for the previous advice.

(quoted from post at 02:05:45 05/12/15) Those transmissions are not known for any low gear problems. The clown that had it apart before either damaged something when assembling it or has the wrong combination of top gear/bottom gear tooth count. There are TWO different low gears. I don't care which one you end up using, but they have to be correct top/bottom to each other.

That's my guess that one or the other is incorrect. The main shaft parts are the new
style , so maybe they didn't change the counter shaft. I called Sandy lake and read the
casting number of first gear top shaft and was told it was discontinued. Gotta call back
tomorrow . Another strange thing is I can't find the serial number. The right side of the
torque tube where it's supposed to be is completely smooth. Can you cross reference the
block number ?

Well mystery solved . Late model counter shaft , early model first gear on main shaft. Both discontinued parts , located used at Sandy lake imp. Thanks for input . Manual shows serial number on right side I'm pretty sure but either way there's not one on this tractor which makes me a little suspicious.
