AC - B source of overhaul gaskets

Its time to mow, so time to get the B tuned and setup. When I pulled the drain plug for an oil change today, what lead the way after setting all winter was a huge amount of anti-freeze. After setting all winter the year before, was a little that bothered me, but after changing the oil repeatedly after running and using it, I didn't see anymore...but did change the three freeze plugs in the head to be safe. That was after last winter. But today I was shocked at the amount of antifreeze. I'm guessing well over a quart. Its not overheating, so I'm not thinking a head gasket. Anyway, seeing all of that antifreeze leading the oil out, I opened the radiator cap and looked in the radiator, and had none in the upper reservoir, so we're talking at least that much antifreeze. Took a half gallon to fill it. That's an awful lot. Time to open her up. That's at least an overhaul set of gaskets, I figure.

Thanks

Good chance you have sleeve O-ring seals that are bad so you will have to pull the sleeves to fix. One way to be sure is drain the oil out and pull the oil pan off. Then set a piece of card board under it and watch where the coolant shows up

Thanks old. I ordered an overhaul set of gaskets here right after I posted for about $80 with shipping and taxes. I figure open her up and see what I've got going. Problem has been so far is that this shows up after its been setting in the cold. I'm going to drain the oil again this morning because I did change it yesterday and ran it. Let's see what she has going this morning. Was nice that under AC parts, they have whole rebuild kits as well...sleeves, pistons, whole kits. But, let's make sure I don't have a crack or worse somewhere too. Thanks for the idea of dropping the pan and laying a piece of cardboard under her. Great idea.

If I remember right the sleeve seals o-rings are not in that gasket set and you have to buy them in there own kit. There are 8 of them 2 per cylinder. I have had more then one of these engines open and they are pretty easy to work on

Old, I just drained it now...100% fresh oil. Not one drop of antifreeze after using it for hours yesterday. So, wherever its coming from has to do with the cold. I'll check the AC parts section for the O-rings. I don't know the torque specs or anything for when I put it back together so I'm going to need a manual anyway and they have them.

Thanks

Ya the I-T AC-11 will help you a lot. If you pull the sleeves out you need to clean up the block where they fit real good. O found to pull the sleeve I cut a piece of oak 2X4 that fit inside the block and covered the sleeve then hit that with a hammer and they pop right out. I still have a lot of parts around for that engine even a case iron oil pan and valve cover which are not real common
