WD45 reversed loader tractor

I found a WD45 wfe for scrap price, and after fooling with it , after getting it home, It runs well, and the 2 clutches work well, and the tranny seems ok, and the steering is tighter than my other WD45. The rubber is 60 %, and it has original wheel weights on the rear, and loaded tires. I also have a really good DuAl loader, with PTO pump, that I have been using on my original WD45. I would like to explore putting togeather a reversed loader tractor, and would like to find pictures, of this application, and communicate with someone who has done this successfully. I think, that reversing the ring gear, will be the easiest part for me. Making the operators station, will be the hardest! There are 2 brakes 2 clutches, a steering wheel, a gas lever, a shifter, and seat to reverse. I am guessing that some self propelled combines, can provide some of the parts. Any one want to get involved??

Hi Ralph, The WF was built reversed and used as the basis for a loader built by a company called Tractormotive so it can be done. If I can locate a picture I will post it.Around here someplace...

These are being featured in Hutchinson MN this year. This is my TL-W based on the WF tractor.

Your location? Wanna look at mine? Ring gear flip is easy- just unbolt finals, pull axles, flip gear, reinstall everything. Op station is tougher, but I"d use a combine hydrostatic steering system if doing it again, rather than shafts and gears. Much simpler. Add a crankshaft driven hyd pump for independent hyd. email is open. Lots more pix.

JMS.MN! After looking at your pictures,I belive that you have the right idea, on the brake and clutch, switch over. The steering also makes sense, however I think that hydraulics, can work better. Have you ever got your pants cuff pinched in those steering gears? Looks possible! I would like to see the seat mounting better. Don't see the seat mounting. I am close to Tacoma Wa, but am thinking of running to Hendricks Mn. This spring, after planting. I want to walk thru Allstates at Hendricks and maybe pick up some stuff, for another job, may even drop down to Sikeston Mo, which has another Allstates, that I have been to in the past. If I make it out to Hendricks, I will probably contact you before leaving, to see what your schedule looks like! Wouldn't hurt to capture your unit on my sketch book.

Nope, never pinched...never thought about it, but would be easy to cover. Offset power steering from 15 series IH combine would make a nice unit. Seat is mounted on flat stock that goes down to the C channels.....you can find it in the pic...rusty iron.

I"m about two hours NE of Hendricks, between Litchfield and St. Cloud. I did my conversion in the late 70s...then there were guys in Hutchinson and Melrose who did them full time, so many units are around here. The clutch/brake setup is simple, with shaft running thru pipe for the crossover. Hand clutch is not used, handle removed.

I reversed a Super MTA, 20 Yrs ago, it takes some time, getting it the way you want it. I would definitely use a combine power steering system, and a Westendorf loader No 42, for example. It's nice and wide, and give the operator a little extra room, when sitting at the controls.

Fastfarmall! That is why I am leaning toward using, my DuAl loader!, For one thing, it is a proven, good loader, and was very wide. I used it on my original WD45, and had to get creative, making mounts for it, being as the WD45 was a lot narrower. The unit is self contained, with a PTO pump, and the control valves, is all that needs to find a new home. This will go slower than I at first expected, because I am going to paint my way thru the build. If it turns out as good as I think it will, then I want it to also look good.
