WD electrical system

Hello all...please help
I have a 1949 WD w/generator,a 12v battery and a magneto.
The generator isn't connected. Battery's connected to solenoid/starter that's activated by pull lever under steering wheel.
How do I know if the Generator is 6 or 12v? How do I connect my multimeter to see if gen works? What terminal is battery, ground, etc on generator?
I'll get a regulator to install but how do I wire this system? I've looked at a few diagrams but I know I'll still spark something then nothing works...lol

You stand about a 89% chance the generator is 6 volts. To test it to see if it is good unhook the fan belt and then try the motor test by hooking up a wire to the post on the generator. Use which ever side of the battery that is the ignition since the generator will already be grounded. If good it will spin over like a motor if bad it will not

Factory 6v generator does not use a regulator.....it has a relay on top of the generator to control charging. System is detailed in I&T AC 11 service manual...diagrams, etc.
