i have looked for place to check transmission oil. i find the fill plug, but, not the check plug. where is it?

The check plugs (2) are the fill plugs. Keep both of them full. Both are located underneath the battery box area.

Perhaps an inspection of gov is called for. I've seen a few that were dirty, or rusted up after sitting a long time. perhaps flyweight pins or holes in flyweights are worn out. Perhaps the springs are shot or the wrong ones. Allis svc manual may be of some help. Other posts about carb and damper spring are also very valid points.

You lock the foot clutch forward to get to the rear oil level/fill plug.

Keep some oil in the hydraulic reservoir or the front seal will go dry and be ruined...

90 in the Trans and I have always kept 140 in the rear end..

Final drives use 140 also..

Ron.

90 weight is used in the front check plug (hand clutch and PTO gears) and 90 weight is also used in the rear check plug (transmission/differential). All the oil flows back and forth between the two check plugs thru the front transmission bearings. If you put 90 in one and 140 in the other, I guess you wind up with 115 weight when it's all mixed together?.
