XT190 Brakes not fun

So got a nice day today so tackled the brakes on this XT190 I got in. Left side took me almost 2 hours to do because the brake bands where rusted tight to the pin. Got them off the pin and the other pins where almost as bad due to rust. ATF did help a good bit. Would have finished the other side but there is one spring missing that holds the brakes in the released position so have to order it tomorrow and hope it gets here fast
 
you did well, i worked on my 175 brakes a few years ago and it took me half a day for one side...had to change the drum it was so far gone! One of the most neglected parts of farm equipment, yet it can mean your life if you are on hilly terrain.... i always smile now each time I stop on that tractor b/c i remember how awful it was to not be able to stop reliably! one of my 190xt's jumps out of gear and i could not imagine going down a steep hill with no brakes after that happens.......

190 is a piece of cake compared to the D17 Series IV, 170, 175, 180 and 185 where you have to take off the seat, unbolt and tie away the hydraulic valves and lines, remove 3pt cylinders, remove wheels and final drives (twice)....and hopefully they don't have a cab! A 175D was my first and came from the west coast....talk about rusty! Took 21 hours and a torch to get it done. 4th tractor took my 1 1/2 hours for the easy side....I figure that to be a record!
