D-14 Low Power

We purchased a '58 D-14 about two years ok in the fall, didn't really do anything with it that year. Last year we started messing with it a bit and discovered it had no power what so ever. After a little research and talking with some local guys we ended up replacing the clutch. We went the standard model clutch instead of the HD one with the springs in the plate. Without the bucket or blade attached it seem to be doing ok, but once we got the bucket and blade back on we are running into the low to no power issue again. There is no smell of burnt clutch and it does appear to be working correctly, you can feel it engage and release and sometimes it seems everything is working fine, but then it will start having trouble reversing or climbing a small hill.

We are just trying to see if anyone may have an ideas to help us out, it appears to run great when in neutral and sometimes when in gear, so we are really stomped here, we have a few resource manuals and are trying to resource the Power Director. The manual we have dealing with the Power Director isn't very clear and we are not exactly sure what position it should be in for general use of a bucket and blade/scrape. Thanks a lot for any help.

P.S. My brother is the mechanic but hates computers, so I'm doing this, sorry if my description isn't very well stated but I can get additional info as needed, thanks again.

I'm a little confused you say it runs out of power but yet you replaced the clutch? Is the engine running out of power, lugging down, cutting out, etc.. Or is the tractor losing motion like something slipping? As far as what side to run the power director that depends on the speed you want go, shouldn't matter high or low.

The Power Director (hand clutch) has three positions. All the way forward is High range. All the way to the rear is Low range. In the middle is neutral and it will "creep" in neutral when oil is cold. Full stroke from low to high is 24 or more inches ?? I think you're in neutral. Press down on the button and push or pull it back as far as it will go.
