Need help with D-17 oil panb

Hey;

I have a knock that I want to have a look at , so am looking at removing the oil pan. Problem is I have this D-17 Series 111 with power steering, and this power steering ram is not letting the pan go. That is on the right side of the tractor as you are sitting on it.

I am thinking of taking out the four bolts that hold this ram in, but got to be a better way, right?
Load of work no matter how you look at it.

It's a lot of work, but remove the radiator and grille shell. The pull the front axle/front support out from underneath it. If you had some really long bolts, I suppose you could just pull the front support ahead 12 inches and have enough room. DO NOT remove that steering ram...it is timed.

According to the manual, there is.
I was going to pull the pan on my Series II with P.S. so
I looked in the manual for guidance.
Turns out, I didn't need to pull the pan but I kept this little piece of info
for future reference.
The drawing is wrong in that the long 1/4" socket head screw actually
goes "down" through the skirt of the block and threads into that little "Oil Sump Fastener" plate.
The instructions correctly describe the process.
Like I say, I never did it, but it sure looks relatively straight forward.

If you are lucky enough to have that later design pan bolt (not all have it) good luck putting the pan back on and have it oil leak free !!!
 
It just might be worth a try, huh?
If it looks like it ain't goin' to work.....go the hard way!
You gotta pull the pan either way!

Thank You for the information on the pan removal. I am nutty with trying to find those bolts that the pictorial represents, just no darn room in there to get in there and work. If i HAVE to pull the front end off to get at it, I am in dire straits as I don't have the most well equipped shop o the planet.

Did all of the Allis's with Power steering oil pans come apart this way?

Appreciate all the god help, and any tips/advice is greatly appreciated.

The Doctor seems to think that not all the tractors with P.S. had the special bolt and plate; I don't know.....I only posted what I found in the manual.
Remember.....you will be looking for that longer 1/4" bolt on top, passing thru the block casting, down thru the pan and threading into the little plate. That's the whole purpose....so that you can access it with the P.S. intact.
The picture is wrong, but the description is correct.
