WC rear finals gaskets

I am putting new axle seals in 1936 WC and was thinking of using silicone in place of the big gasket, was wondering what you thought about it, or has anyone used it, if so did it work ok, I was thinking it maybe better then a gasket, but it would be nice to know if it worked first, and does anyone sale the other gaskets you need for the job or is everyone just making them? Thanks

Mike, if you're talking about the really big paper gasket behind the sheet metal gear cover, I believe AGCO no longer produces it. I bought some very nice hand cut ones from a ebay seller several years ago

JoeM yes thats the ones I was asking about, I was thinking with the metal beening alittle thin that silicone may do better then a gasket, just not sure, guess I'll sleep on it lol, if someone dont tell me its a bad ideal I think I'll try it.

That grey stuff that NAPA has, works ok for me, on cast mating surfaces. I have also used it on truck rear end covers. They call it ULTRA GREY and I think, it is made by Permatex. It also is called gasket maker.

It can't hurt to check your "pans" with a straight edge for flatness. Sometimes bolts got over tightened and things get bent up. A little hammering to flatten things out can't hurt.
I used an RTV sealant on mine about 9 years ago and they haven't leaked yet.
