Question on WD45 Diesel

I have a buddy with a WD45 Diesel. The intake manifold has a fairly large size plug that we believe where a glow plug would fit. The plug however has a chain on it as if it's meant to be taken in and out without out loosing it. What's the deal with this chain and plug? If a guy installs a glow plug, why wouldn't it remain in place and no need for a plug to be dangling by a chain?

Thanks for your response.

The WD45 diesel did not have a glow plow. It has a manifold heater that is located right below the opening you are talking about. The plug is for starting fluid, but I only used it one time on my tractor. Even a quick spray was too much. It is much safer to take the air cleaner cap off and to spray at that point. You are less likely to make the engine knock.

If you read the directions on starting a Buda engine its the hole they say to use a propane torch to put the flame in from the torch to heat up the air going into the engine. But of course you could use it give it a shot starting fluid.

The factory ether assist start on a WD45 was a cup back by the starter rod handle, in which you placed a little ether "ball" - before the days of the spray can.

That plug is to warm the air with a torch.
I have shot either into mine many times. I am careful not to give it too much. Mine only needs a few drops.

It's also been said that the plug is as big as it is so you can use a piece of corn cob soaked in kerosene on the end of a long nail to heat the intake.
