200 Front End

Looking to wrap wet bales for balage this summmer. I have a 3 pt wrapper on the back, and will put a loader on the front to move the bales. The 200 is known to have a weak front end and wet bales can get heavy. The front end is still original and is in decent shape. Any thoughts would be appreciated on how to modify the front end to make it stronger?

The 1 I have has a big westendorf loader on it, been on there for years, has 8 bolt hubs. I don't see where there are any welds or problems.

When I was around those tractors, all I recall seeing were several that broke near the rear, on one side. I never knew what did it. Maybe something about where the steering cylinder is anchored? Seems like it was always a 190-200 with over sized front tires. We ran a loader on a 185 with a large material bucket. It was over loaded many times, and never gave any trouble.

My experience with wide fronts is limited to JD(2510-4020) and AC (WD-185). We never experienced breakage or unusual wear. I then assume that breakage is a high speed/overload/rough going kind of thing.

This was a long time ago, but my dad had a 200 with loader on it. Yup the front end was welded up at the rear sides of the front end. I cannot recall if there were welds anywhere else. Maybe this and the post below gives you a hint where to look for weakness and do a professional reinforcement job.
Of course how an operator uses it also makes a difference.

A model 200 never had 8-bolt hubs.....6-bolt was OEM. Front axles with a big loader and heavy loads will show any weakness. Usually spindles are the first thing to fail on one of those, so there is no good fix for that. I installed a 210/220 front axle underneath a 185 for a friend of mine. who had a big Allied loader on it. About a year later he broke the tractor in half right under the fuel tank. Everything has it's limits.
