Hey there
Don't know about the box but I have a good

I may end up looking for a different grader eventually, but I have put a lot of money in my D, so I am going to try and fix it up for now.

Take your gear box, to an old machineist, at least your age, or older' I had to do that with the ross box, off my B tractor. He cleaned up the worm gear, made a new follower, and replaced all worn bearings, and seals. I can plant straight rows now.

I took everything to one of the best machinists I know. He took everything apart and thought he could fix it. He finally gave up when he couldn't even order "needle bearings" the same size as was originally in it. I have one more guy in mind that would probably like to tackle it as a challenge. He is really good on a lathe and basically can "remake" things. I was just hoping somebody might have an old one they might be willing to part out. Of course anything that old will be pretty worn.

Kurt,

Not a D but I've been through the rebuild of the steering box on a "Forty Five". Including rebuilding the tapered spline on the end of the output shaft.

Parts were also NLA. But a local (Oz) firm has an ancient paper IBR Bearing replacement catalogue which goes from Allis part numbers to standard bearing numbers. This put us straight to Torrington for the needle bearings required and which are still available. The seals were industry standard but there was a bronze bush we had to make.

Not sure how you get to tap this track, but likely the bearings are still around.

I think that the D grader also used a Ross steering box but I don't know if it was the same model as might have been used in a tractor of that vintage.

I got one it worked when i took it off has been in the garage ever since. i live in pa email me and we can set up something.
