Going to look at an AC tomorrow, any tips?

Posted on another Allis forum too, not really antique but going to look at a 1985ish AC 8030 that supposedly has under 2000 hours. 2wd, powershift model. Fairly low price, very rough looking.

For sale by a jockey, he got it at auction from a bankrupt construction company, supposed to have just been used in the yard for snow removal but I see mud on the chassis and it has trailer light plugs wired.

Cab is rough but he says pedal/drawbar/3 point hitch wear looks like correct hours. Nose cone busted. Rack of weights in front, cast on the wheels.

I'd like to put it on a discbine for about 100 hours a year or so. I understand these guys like to throw a rod through the cam around 3500-4000 hours and get drooling injectors around then too.

Besides usual stuff, I'm gonna try to find a hill to try the PS in every gear. Not sure if he has something hydraulic I can hook up to it and try out to make sure more than the charge pump is working.

Anything special to look for these guys are known for?

Looking over the zoomed in images, there is no way the hours are correct. It must have had the tach replaced during engine rebuild or something.

Mistreatment aside, bolts stuck in 3 point hitch components, mud all over a snow removal tractor? The wear of what looks like 4000 hours of in and out of a dairy feeding tractor on a tractor with no loader?

Hours aren't right.

RUN Forrest RUN!!!! That tractor is ROUGH!! The AC 8000 series is generally a good tractor but I would pass on this one.

The 8000 series tractors were pretty good machines. This particular one would scare me to death. Never seen a 2000 hour tractor that rough. I believe the rod throwing problems were mainly in the 7080 and 7580 tractors and the N6 combine. They had them wound up too tight trying to get a few more HP out of them.

If that tractor has 2000 hrs. on it, it's 2,000 of severe use and lack of service. How much is this joker willing to pay you to haul it away? JD has this one right. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
