I have a series 1 d-17 allis, I use it everyday, I would love to have seen a farmers face that took delivery of a new 1 back in 1959. It had to be a caddilac of all tractors for its size an time..

Well, in 1961 we had a new Allis Dealer start up, I was in the 10th grade, my dad bought a new A Gleaner combine,[1962] the dealer liked me,[well he hired me] so i would go in a put the straw choppers on,the pick up head on, get em ready and deliver them to the farmer. Never delivered a D-17 but got to deliver two D-19, one went on a single row chopper cutting 12-14 foot tall corn,1st gear as slow as it would go, I remember watching the govener on the left side of the tractor, it handled it, but but that all!

My dad bought a new D17 in 62. To compare it to a cadillac is an understatement! After taking a daily beating on a wd45, this tractor was great. Power steering, electric start that actually worked, cushion seat in the center, wide front, high and low range tranny, (the list goes on). Ah, nothing like trying to crank start or roll start the old wd on a hill, with a mounted corn picker on!

Hey, I no what ya mean rode a old WD for years, tough old tractor. But when the allis guys came with the d series, heaven.. lol..

Dad bought a new 1 in 1959 with a mounted picker, but he preferred the WD45 he bought new in 1955. It would out run the D17 pulling loaded hayracks down the road. I liked the D17 best.
