Which A&C to get

Im looking for a Allis Chalmers never owned one before. I need it to plow the snow in my drive and give family hay rides. The B and C models seem to be in my price range but not sure what one is my best bet ???

The B is narrower than the C. Both tractors use the same engine, and most other parts. I would say that price and condition should be your deciding factor, along with front end design. I am sure you know, to get good rear rubber!

A good WD or WD45 would be excellent choices. Plenty of power for hay rides. I think they have slightly faster road speeds than the B or C, they have 4 forward gears, the hand clutch to slip to start loads. They are easy to put a 3 point adapter on to run standard 3 point blades. Parts are easy to find. And they cost as much or slightly less than a B or C. Should be able to find a good narrow front one for under $800 if you take your time looking.

Both the B and C are small as in around 20HP tractor and have limited lift set ups on them and very light on the front ends. I have owned both models and still have a couple of C around. I would keep looking and maybe find a WD or WD45 if your dead set on an A/C tractor that is

WD 45 ,farmall M ,JD A they will be heavier to haul
but will push snow and stop a trailer going down
hill ,the lighter tractors will slide tires a lot
easier.

I do not know your age, but a wd45 would be much
easier to climb on and off, than a B or C.

But a wd 45 might be harder to steer as they are
heavier.

More power, bigger brakes.

However, my family in years gone by had both a B and
C. They were good tough tractors.

I have a WD. Very nice tractor. Arps blower came with it. This is my first winter with it. So far so good! We have six inches of snow so far. We normally get 300 inches. I live in the U.P.

wd or wd 45 would be a better choice
i use mine for hay rides and regulary have 45 - 50
people on board
had to load the tires for traction on the dirt
hills here or it would just spin the wheels
it pulls in 4th gear on any hill i have around
here all my other higher hp tractors have to go
down gears to get them up them

Yukon,

No matter what tractor you buy,

be sure to check with you insurance company on
carrying kids on the hay ride.

In our area, a little girl fell out/off the 16 ft.
Trailer during a hay ride and was run over by the
wheels.

Do not know the final out come, injuries and if the
family sued the owner of the tractor trailer.

It can be problem in today's world, just be aware of
the potential problems.

Don't know how much snow you get. Most of the B's
and C's don't have hydraulics. I would look at a
WD or a CA. The CA is hard to find and will be
pricey.

Interesting statements...
All of my B's and C's have hydraulics, so that is probably a mis-statement.
I don't actively search out CA tractors, just if one drops in my lap. I currently have seven of them, if my last count is correct, with one still sitting on the trailer. They generally cost a couple hundred more than a B or C, but with the improved hydraulics, hand clutch and an extra gear in tranny, they have more uses. I wouldn't think that they are "rare".
