Difference between Fairbanks Morse Magneto's

the "3" means it is for Allis. The "B" means it is a flange mounted mag.. I have never seen an "A" on the end.

(quoted from post at 04:13:41 11/14/14) so there is no difference between type FM and type FMJ?
S,
Check with Standard Magneto in Chicago, Ill. You should be able to find them on the internet. They should be able to answer your mag questions. HTH

FM-J is the model .......... look at bottom of page for specific options -- ( 3 = Allis ) The 4J means it is for a 4 cylinder... could be 2 or 1 models also.

I think the j4b3A has a slightly different lag
angle. Most have the lag angle marked on the paw
plate.

some mags had the "kill" terminal on the left side
for the lever kill and some had the "kill"
terminal on the right side for the push button.
Either they are still a type FMj3b4.

There is a later version type FMx3b4

The FMJ4b3 generally fits the B,C,WC and WD. The FMj4b3a fits the late WC which has the kill rod next to the choke rod. The model FM magneto has a 1 piece cap whereas the FMJ has the 2 piece cap.

I have seen one FM J4B3A magneto.

I'm pretty sure when I took it a part the paw plate was stamped 35% and not 30. Someone else could have changed it.

Could also be that the kill terminal is on the left side. I have seen 4B3 with kill terminal on the left and on the right. The styled WC I think used the mag with the kill on the left side.

A J4B3 and a J4B3A are close enough they will interchange.
