Does anyone know which 1 wire 12v works best for converting a WC to 12v? I have found a few different pulley sizes. Thanks

I'd use a 3 wire. Works far better and cost is around half that of a one wire and is simple to wire up. Last one wire I got cost me $80 plus and I can buy the Delco 10si 3 wire for around $45 and have a life time warranty to boot

I would go with the three wire also. I use the old genertor pulley with the three wires. They work fine.

While I agree that a three wire is cheaper im wondering why you are saying they work better. I have both on different machines. The only problems I had with a one wire was I need a diode to make the switch kill the engine. On my old minneapolis I had to go to a one wire because they dont require a minimum rpm to excite them ( at least from my supplier). That tractor is at 1500 at full throttle. Ive used a few one wire set ups on customer tractors is there some problem im not aware of? I use one wire on the clock and three wire on my own stuff. At shop rate the one wire is cheaper.

I used a 1 wire. yes it cost me $95 but it was simple to hook up and starts charging right away, no need to rev it up.

Another tractor I purchased had the 3 wire on it, it works pretty much the same, just 2 more wires to deal with

I always use the one wire alternator. A lot simpler to hook up.

Which ever alternator that you use 1 or 3 wire, you might want to use the smallest pulley available on the alternator and match the belt size (width) to the pulley groove widths. The faster that you can turn the alternator the better they perform with the low rpm tractor engines.

Simpler to hook up what 2 true wires to much to do???? 3 wire less likely to drain the battery if left not running a long time and no RPM problems as to when it starts charging

I have been dealing with the 1 wire for over 4 decades and have learned to hate them due to many odd problems so I only use 3 wires and the cost if more then half to boot

Little off topic, however when I was buying lots of alternator parts the internal regulator for one wire cost me same as for 3 wire. Guess case of supply and demand at consumer level.

That maybe true but the 3 wire is just really a 2 wire since the #2 wire goes to the charging stud of the alternator then a diode or resister or light bulb goes in the wire going to the #1 which in turn goes to the ignition side of the coil or other such place and of course the last wire but you know where it goes since it is the same on both 3 and 1 wire set ups
