This project started in the spring. It's finally going back together before winter, but my helper that took off the PTO doesnt remember where this went either.

On older AC, like the WC, they used a brace that went from under the pto box, to the side frame. I don"t remember any WD using that brace, but could this be a washer that went under the brace? The brace was made out of round stock. I do have a parts book for unstyled WC, I could check there.

I have taken the PTO drop box off of my '51 WD too many times, but have never encountered that part. Nor does it show up in the parts explosion for that year. Does it even show any evidence of orange anywhere?

To me it looks like the only parts that might match that hole in diameter are the studs that suspend the box from the torque housing. That box can be heavy for one man to hold in place by hand while starting washers & nuts. Might a previous owner used that to hold one side up while he started other nuts. Might you even find that you have only 5 washers to go with the 6 studs?

Just a thought.

Also, the very early WD's had a washer between the drop box and PTO shift lever. However, the hole in that piece doesn't look large enough anyway, unless the pic is deceptive.

Only place I can see this part may belong is under one of the 2 Bolts that mount the rear PTO Bearing at the Differential..

Ron.

I have the factory repair manual and the I & t repair manual neither one shows anything like this. It's really throwing me for a loop. Thanks for checking your WC manual JMS/.MN.

Going by memory, there is something unusual about the studs, clearance and nuts that hang that PTO box. I believe that, for at least some of the nuts, there is only room for an open end wrench. I believe that the nuts are also peculiar to that location, maybe being of different thickness and width across the flats typical for that stud diameter . The studs are of a length and pitch specific to that application. See if there is not a replacement stud of different length in one location, or maybe a partially stripped stud that requires a thicker washer to stay in good threads.

Have you tried hypnosis on your helper?

That is item #17 (2) Spacers,(regulating spring retainer) that goes behind the #15 Spring retainer on the Drawbar of later WD and WD-45.See the Agco Parts Pages.

I had the same problem with extra parts after a 5 year tear down and went to a show and stared at a un-restored WD until I found where the parts go. A WD-45 up the street also have them on it.

Tried to send the page but can't get it done today. There is a note on it that these should be installed on early tractors if the #15 spring Retainer is replaced.cleddy

The page from the WD-45 Manual. Part in question would be the Spacer by the Big Spring Retainer toward the top of the page.cleddy

Okay then - I guess we are done with this subject.Maybe he did not need & care about that part after all.cleddy

I did thank you Cleddy. It just wasnt the picture that I responded with a thank you to. Please don't think that your help wasnt appreciated.

That's okay and I appreciate that. I realize sometimes it takes a while to get back to things. Hope that helped as was mentioned that part is not in the 1951 WD manual but shows up later in the WD-45 manual and Agco pages. So many of the mounted implements are gone now for AC Tractors you may never miss it if it if that part was gone. My tractor took at least 10 years to get together and I still haven't put decals on it.cleddy

That is a nice looking wd. I've been slowly getting mine back up to looking the way it should over the past 5 years. It's a working tractor and snow duty was too much for it last year. The splines were stripped off of the clutch shaft so I had to split the tractor to replace it.
