I need to have my injector pump rebuilt. First step in the service manual is to:
"1. Prior to pump removal set the engine at specified timing. this will facilitate pump installation later"
I am not sure how to do that, and cannot find anything in the book. I assume #1 cylinder needs to be at TDC on compression stroke but how do I determine or confirm that.
If I pull the inspection cover will I be able to see the marks on the engine idler gear and the injection pump drive gear?
It is a 1977 with a Perking 4 cylinder engine with a CAV injector pump.
I don't have a scribed line on the pump or timing case so I will add that before I remove the pump.
Any other tips would be appreciated.
