Allis Chalmers 5040 Diesel

Looking at an Allis Chalmers 5040. Serial plate has been painted over, but the top row of numbers are, 460610; bottom row, 74388. Three cylinder diesel motor, hour meter broken, can not be read. Runs, but smokes, clutch out, transmission suspect. Good rubber, tin is sillied up. Nose is missing. 3 point mostly missing. What's it worth? What's is this unit a cousin to? Is this a David Brown? What model? If I search for parts, what else will fit up?

Its a Fiat built in Romania I have a couple they're pretty good tractors.Similar tractors built by Fiat are Long 445,460 and Oliver 1265.Import Tractor in Canada has lots of information and parts for the 5040.As for price sounds like not too much if it needs overhauling and lots of parts missing it'll cost more to fix up than its value when you finish.

Believe it is a 1978 model made by UTB (Universal) in Romania. I've owned one for several years and, other than starter issues, has been a tough and economical little tractor. Some parts available from Yesterday's Tractors and others from Import Tractor. Lots of info in YT archives. I'd figure value as a donor/parts tractor only.

If its a long which I think it is I had one. Good unit but needs to be shed kept. I flushed it a couple times. Never could figure out how the water got in the hydraulic. You can get anything for a long tractor. Takes a little doing but not a real big deal.
