New to AC bought this one and can't get it to shift to low or
reverse. Any secrets or suggestions? Does shift to second
and third. Thanks.

First thought would be the gears are stuck on the counter shafts from years of rust. Pop the tranny cover and take a look.

It's not easy finding the gears. I found that pulling the shift lever straight up a little worked better on mine. Yours probably has a 4th gear that is not hooked up due to the fact it came with steel wheels.
