I have a wd-45 6 volt with C/O relay. on the gen. which of the 2 wires is the F and which is the A top and bottom. it shows discharge when running it will close the c/o relay and will open when motor shut off. If the gen is tapped it will go to charge and move back and forth the battery is not reversed as with lights on amp meter show discharge. I thought by grounding the F it would show something.any ideas

On my B I believe the lower stud is the armature and the upper stud is F (field). If the cutout closes when the motor starts and opens when the motor stops, then the generator must be working. It closes when the generator output is above battery voltage. Your right, you can ground the F terminal and should go to full charge. If you still have the light switch resistor, then that gives a restricted ground and gives low charging amps. Grounding the F terminal to the frame should give you full output or 8-10 amps on the gauge. You can also put a volt meter on the two terminals when motor is running and see if your getting close to 7 volts output.

when you pull the knob on the light switch all the way out you should get maximun genny output.
But like with anything electrical, a good ground is necessary to make it work.
When you stnd in front of the genny, the terminal closest to you is tht A terminal. It should be stamped into the genny. LOL Bob
