Allis Chalmers WD Transmission Rebuild

I am restoring a 1952 Allis Chalmers WD. When we opened the transmission up, it was full of water and bearings / gears rusted.Because of this we are having to replace the bearing cluster on the transmission mainshaft. To replace this, there is a mainshaft rear bearing adjusting nut that has to be removed. It looks like at the factory they heated part of it, bent it in to serve as a lock. I am curious if any of you have ever messed with removing this nut and the best way of going about it. We have heated it, used a punch to bend it out but it doesn't seem to be bending out enough to unscrew. Any good ideas let me know! Thanks!

It should be a washer with tangs on it. Heat the tang and pry it flat and the nut will unscrew. Rotate the nut to see if more than one tang is locking it in place. It"s a common way of locking a critical nut.
