wc governor

I have a wc engine and I am wondering how much more hp or rpm do you get by switching to a d17 governor spring vs putting in a 175 spring. Also I have two different governors laying around and was wondering why they have different styles. They both look like the wc/wd's. they both have the same housing and same diameter gear but on one the shaft diameter is 1/2 inch and the other is 5/8 inch and the weights are different. one style has little springs on the outside if that helps.

I am not sure of the amount in RPM increase you would get but the increase in HP with higher RPM's is only there provided you have made engine changes to maintain those higher RPM's. A heavy load on original HP will pull down the RPM's and as soon as your back to the original RPM's before changing springs you are back to the original HP.

When I wanted a higher speed out of my C, research on AGCO parts gave speeds along with part numbers for similar block engines-(D10-D15) for each respective governor spring.
As far as HP, I agree with Dick L, speed only gets you speed.

Rusty,A stock WC is governed at 1300 rpm. A WD or WD45 spring takes you to 1400 rpm. WC governor with a D17 spring takes you to about 2000 rpm. Believe it or not a 170 or 175 spring gives less rpm than the D17 spring. I'm running a WC with the D17 spring right now and it runs at about 2050-2100 according to my tachometer.Kip
