allis g question

my brother and I picked up an allis g a few years ago. we had gotten it running but when you put in in gear and let out the clutch it didn"t move. time went by and other projects came up, now I am wanting to mess with it again. after some reading I went ahead and pulled the motor out of the tractor figuring the clutch was stuck.

with the motor out I pulled the clutch off and checked out the pressure plate and clutch disk. they are not in too bad of shape. I cleaned up everything and put the clutch back in tightened up the pressure plate and tried to move the clutch disk with nothing pressing on the pressure plate and it wanted to spin the motor over so it seems like the clutch and pressure plate are holding. went ahead and pulled out the throwout bearing and pin that holds the clutch fork and cleaned them both up so everything looked good and put the motor back in. once I got everything together I put the tractor in gear and moved it back and forth and it never tried to turn the motor over. I have not tried to start the tractor yet (getting too late) what kind of adjustments should/ could be done to the clutch?

anyone got any other ideas about what to try ?

thanks for any ideas

It still sounds like the clutch is not set right,or the disc is in backwards, sadly the adjustment is done with the engine out

Is there any clutch pedal "free travel"?

I"m guessing NOT.

That could mean the finger adjustments on the pressure plate are wrong, or the TO bearing is too near the flywheel do to a linkage adjustment, or a mis-match of parts.

Axle shafts were a weak point on Gs. Jack up one side and put it in gear. If the clutch is OK you should not be able to turn the wheel. I had min twist the splines off the inner end using brakes to make a turn.

Hello Joe, I have a friend of mine with a G model. He sure could use a copy of the service manual if you'd be kind enough to send one to me at cebriggs at gmail.com it sure would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed
