WF brake pivot removal

Broke the adjusting bolt off the brake band. Hand brakes like a WC. Need to pull the pivot rod to remove the band. Found the cotter pin and got it out. Now trying to figure out how to get the actuator off the pivot rod so I can get the rod out.
How is it on the shaft? Splined? D shaped hole? Is there a thru pin burried in the rust?
Sure would appreciate your experience with this!

IIRC there"s something about driving it out.....there"s a key that will take a bushing with it??? I"ll check my books.

If it's keyed to the shaft it makes sense as the key would have to pass thru the pivot rod bushing for the rod to come out unless you remove the key.
Let me know if you find that the actuator is keyed to the shaft and if there is setscrew buried in there.

I&T AC 11- para 305. Push the bolt out of the toggle, bump the shaft out. Likely to take the bushing out as well. Does not show a key or setscrew, but something has to hold the toggle to the shaft, pretty sure it"s a key. Bushing pt # U-2645. 4 used per tractor.

Thank you sir, l will beat and pry like heck very carefully and keep watch for a key knocking out the bushing.
Let you know what I find!

there is a key, you'll need to tap the the shaft out slowly until you can tell where the key is,then rotate the shaft until the key will pass through the space where the band is folded over. Sometimes if there isn't too much trash you can see the grove in the actuator arm. It will take out the inside bushing on the way through. I always cut a piece of wood to place beside the band to keep it still and so it won't distort as you bring the shaft through. I also tie a good piece of nylon string on to the band before you pull it out, you can then use it to help pull the new or repaired one around the drum. I hope this makes sense!

Sure does Joe!
Now only if I can get the actuator and shaft to part company. They have pretty much become one. Brute force didn't budge it. Soaking in Croil as we communicate.
A little heat tomorrow and we shall see if the die grinder has to make an appearance.

After the heat, apply some candle wax as it cools....seeps into the joint between the two pieces.

Good place to try that.I've heard of that but never tried it. Even have candles left from my birthday last week.
Thanks for your help!

Never failed me- even on a 4500 Ford TLB where the spark plugs are recessed so far that I couldn"t use a torch. Used engine heat only, took 3 tries, but got it loose. If you"re Catholic- use a blessed candle- makes up for the cussing used to get the bolt loose!
