Anyone know what ignition system is on WD? (Lots of Pics)

I bought this 1948 WD for parts for my 1950 WD. The '48 has a coil/distributor ignition system that I'm thinking of switching over to the 1950 because I'm having spark issues with the FM-X mag on it. But the '48 needs new points and I can't tell what distributor I have so I can get the correct points. Anyone know what it is?

Here's the '48 parts tractor....

One other thing about this '48 parts tractor. I paid $400 for it; it has one brand new tire; it has two very good rims (probably from a D-something); it has a pretty nice three point hitch that I see for sale elsewhere for $300 to $500. And it runs. And the front end is not original and I will probably sell it. Anyway, this parts tractor makes me berry, berry happy!

looks like the standard Delco of the times. The word "auto" at the bottom is "automotive", not autolite.

That is a Delco conversion kit from magneto. They
use the same points as the factory set up for a WD-
45. The Delco part number for the points is
70243507. Get them from NAPA or a dealer that sells
Standard Motor Parts Like Steve at B&B. The
Chinese ignition parts sold by all the online
tractor parts places are pure garbage.

Thank you Butch for the part number.

Since it's standard conversion kit, I think I'll search for previous posts on directions on how to swap the ignition systems, and give it a try this weekend.

Thanks for the help!

Thats a Delco unit. You find a lot of them on Case S
and D series tractors and a few on Farmalls.
The rotor is different than any I've seen.

I agree with what the others have said about your
dist. What caught my eye,is there is a bracket
underneath and to the rear of the tractor, that is
hooked into the bell coupler. Do you know what it is
used for and how it hooks up to the tractor? I would
appreciate it if you would post a couple of pictures
as to how it is hooked up. Thanks. Fred

Where are you located? I see that you're thinking about selling
that wide front. I would be interested in it if you're somewhat
close to southern MI.

Your distributor sure looks a lot like mine on my WD. The rotor is the same also. Are you sure that you need new points and not just to touch them up with a point file. Or you might have problem in the wiring? Your distributor and points "look better" then the ones on my WD that has been running just fine for over 20 years. Good luck with your efforts.

Sorry, not very close to southern Michigan. I am in the western UP, in the Houghton/Hancock area.

Billy, Yes that is what I wanted a picture of. I
have a part like that except it doesn't have the 2
brackets on top to hook on the drawbar hangers. At
least now I got a good idea of what it's for. Thank
you very much. Fred
