Strange G carburetor behavior

When I go up even a slight grade with my G running on the road in 3rd gear, the engine tends to load up, gives some black smoke and misses a little. It's OK on the level. I tried closing the idle screw 1/4 turn and it got worse. Opening a 1/4 turn seemed to help some. I was all through the carburetor last fall, soaked it out, set the float to spec, cleaned all passages, etc. Ideas?
 
The idle screw is adjusted for slow idle only. The idle circuit is not in play once you speed up the RPM's above slow idle and you get fuel thru the power jet.

Adjust the carburetor to the slow idle engine speed and then see how it works.

The slow idle is set with the stop screw and the idle mixture screw is to get the proper air fuel mix to make the engine run smooth at that slow RPM setting. Power jet is non adjustable.

Might be a firing order problem.
This engine will run on the 1 2 4 3 order but not well. The G firing order is 1 3 4 2
 
Back to fuel delivery. Start checking at the tank, sediment bowl and the carburetor. If you have proper fuel at the carburetor your problem would have to be in the carburetor. Take the power jet out and make sure it is the proper one and has the gasket on it. Then set the slow idle rpm speed and see what you have. The fuel has to go thru that jet to get into the engine when above idle. To get around going thru the jet you would have to have fuel over flowing into the air way where the choke butterfly. To check for that remove the air cleaner tube from the carburetor. If you have fuel coming from there when running you have a shut off problem from float or the wire doohickey attached to the float shutoff is binding and not letting it to close.
