D-17 Kit Info

When I bought my WD-45 a couple years ago, the seller said it had a "D-17 Kit" installed in it. Just got to thinking about it..........What does that mean? Thanks.........RP

It could mean ANYTHING unfortunately. Original WD45 W226 engine was 6.5:1 compression. All D17's (original from factory) were M-coded 7.25:1 compression G226 engines. D17 models from 24001 and up had the full flow oil filter system with the pressure relief built into the oil pump.

Most aftermarket engine kits are 4 1/8" pistons instead of the original 4" unless you get your kits form AGCO. But unfortunately most 4 1/8" kits are only 6.5:1 CR like the original WD45 and not 7.25:1 like the D17 (or higher like the 170/175) unless you bought a documented high compression kit.

Also, D17's had different cranks than WD45's with center thrust bearings, larger journals and no shims.

Unless you pull the head and the pan you can't know for sure just what's inside! Mike
