Allis D17 only starts with a pull from another vehicle

My Allis Chalmers D17 gas tractor won't start unless I pull it with my truck while in gear. Starts right up when pulled and runs perfect. I replaced the coil, condenser, points, distributor cap and all wiring. Battery holds charge and is new. Turns over easy and fast with the key but won't start without a pull start. Anybody??? HELP; I'm going crazy here.

When you say it turns over fast and easy with a key do you mean you turn the key farther to start it and you don"t have a separate button for the starter? If that is the case it sounds like a key switch issue. When you turn the key farther to engage the starter ("start position) somehow the ignition coil might be losing voltage but when you pull start it in the normal "on" position it still has voltage. Try running a temporary jumper from a good 12v source to the coil that isn"t dependent on the key switch and see if that works. Mike

Ok. That's an easy test. I'll try that first and report back. Yes, it's a key start without an extra button to start it. You turn th key just like a car.
