Ether starting

I have a AC 6080 that I've had for about 3 months. I have to use ether to start it even on a hot day. Is there an easy fix. When it runs it does not smoke.

How many hours is on the pump, if high hours the head/rotor assembly may have internal groove wear that will cause too much internal leakage at cranking speed. Does it smoke on acceleration?

Depends on your definition of hot. It was normal for the earlier 6060's and 6080's to require a whiff of starting fluid on anything cooler than a hot day. I suppose if your engine is tired all these years later it may need help even on a "hot" day. They upped the compression in later ones, and it helped a lot. Hopefully any overhaul kits out there are the later style. But if it runs OK, just keep going.
