Hello,
I did a brake job on my G last week and seem to be leaking oil past the carrier shims. What should I use to prevent leaking at this spot? Internet research shows people using either paper or gasket sealant. Anyone have experience using either? If using sealant where should it be applied? I have two thin shims per side. Sealant in between them, between the shims and the transmission, all points in between?
I have also realized I probably used the wrong axle seals, although they aren't leaking (yet). I used NAPA #11800 and have a 1.25" axle, it looks like folks on this forum are suggesting #12456 as a better seal - Is that correct? I'd like to only do this job twice!
One more question: I used two seals per side with the solid metal face of the seal facing the dry/wheel end of the axle and the "open" face of the seal to the wet/oil end of the axle, is that the correct orientation?
Thanks so much for your help, Matt
