WD replacement muffler question...

My old Nelson muffler (and I mean old... It's from at least pre-1985) on my WD is on its last leg. It split at the seam at the top a few times and was likewise repaired several times, but now it is rusting out around the crown and I can't limp her along any more (much to my dismay, she sounds so good).

But replacement mufflers have this strange slit at the base where it goes into the manifold -- seems like that's just a path for exhaust gases to escape and wear away at the manifold and for water to get in.

Am I missing something? Are they really supposed to be this way?

Those TSC mufflers will work, but they do sound like crap.

Only a real Nelson will have that nice AC sound...IF you can find one..

I have heard that NAPA can get them, will be needing one myself soon..

That looks like a WC muffler. They had a slot like that to slide INSIDE the manifold and tighten up with a bolt.

Every wd I've been around has had a slot in it for
the bolt. I have never seen a WD that used all the
extra brackets that come with the new mufflers.

I have a wd45 diesel that will need a new muffler.
Are they available?

You can still purchase the real deal Nelson as was
used OEM from Simply Filter but be prepared for
price shock. If you can find a REAL Walker they are
pretty good but beware that some time ago they
started selling Stanley mufflers in Walker boxes. I
have had a standley on our WD for 10 years. Have
gotten used to the Stanley tin can sound and doesnt
bother me anymore.

the flat bracket goes on the manifold, and the one with the bend in it goes on a head bolt then the muffler clamps in between
