Allis-chalmers D-15 hand clutch

Hey Fella's I have a question? How much trouble is it to adjust the hand clutch on a D-15, and I'm talking about the adjustment on the outside. I'm talking about going in and shimming the clutch pack while still inside the tractor through the inspection plate. Mine kinda doesn't have the neutral position when you bring the stick to the half-way point. I'm curious if any one has adjusted one through the inspection plate cover. The video's I have seen on line shows the guy rebuilding the engine and since he was there he pulled the clutch pack out, inspected it, and adjusted it. Fill me in fella's :?:

There should be three sets of shims as you go around the clutch, in both high and low range. There are dimensions to maintain so IIRC what you take out of one side you add to the other side. Way different than the WD etc. hand clutch where you take shims out. Check out I&T AC 17 service manual- covers multiple models.

You adjust the clutch halves through the side cover as necessary. In other words, you can do either half, or both. But you do one at a time, and you put the same thickness back into the middle as you take out of either side. The total thickness of shims at each of three locations around the perimeter of the assembly should always be the same. So, you need some technical information. .205" sticks in my mind, but that may not be for all models. Also, the shims which go back in the middle, basically separating the clutch halves, are longer than the ones you take out.
The bracket on the outside has nothing to do with clutch function. It's only there to hold the lever in neutral, and to keep the weight of the lever from wearing on the internal collar when in high range.
