AC B with auxiliary 3 speed transmission

Found an AC B with a 3 speed transmission bolted in front of the the existing transmission. Was between the torque tube the the regular tranny. Was a perfect fit. The front fender brackets were lengthened and the seat mount changed. Looked factory. It made the tractor about 6 inches longer. Any idea what it was for? Gearbox had the words-Patent Applied cast in it. Are they common? Never had seen one before.

Fay and Kraushaar"s book, Original Allis Chalmers, talks about AC experimenting with an auxiliary transmission on the Model C tractor.

Does it have 3 positions or two on the auxiliary transmission? It could be made by the Sherman company. I thought the Sherman transmission only had two positions but someone who has been around these will be more helpful. If it is a Sherman, it is fairly rare and makes the tractor worth more than the average B.

I like your tractor, and would like to have a gearbox on one like that.
If the tractor or gearbox ever goes up for sale, I would be interested.
Nice find by the way!
Anyone one else have a gearbox like this for sale?
