what size of rough cut can an Allis b handle

I have a 3pt 5' farm king mower I put behind my Allis on the weekend and it struggled to keep it going when mowing. I would have thought it would have done better. The grass wasn't very tall.

I've had 5' belly mowers on both a B & a C. Low gear only in normal lawn cutting. No tall stuff. A 4' would work a lot better in your situation.

Make sure the front of the mower is a couple inches lower than the back, that way the blades only cut once. I think it should pull a 5, but that would be plenty. Grandad used to run a 5 foot drag type behind a B.

I have used a 6" land pride 3 point on my B that I put a 3 point hitch on. It ran it fine on flat ground but had trouble keeping the front end on the ground when lifting it.

I pulled a 5' Bush hog brand in grass waist high in
1 and 2 in grass knee high but it won't lift it the
front end is to lite. That is a 52' B.

I have a six foot Woods belly mower under my B and it mows fine with it in second gear. I use first when it gets really thick, or in close quarters, but since first and reverse whine when used, I stay away from them most of the time. I keep the belt tight, blades sharp, and the motor running good and it handles 5 acres every 10 days to two weeks, depending on my schedule at work. It has been known to be longer between mowings, but then the thicker places require me taking less of a cut to avoid burning up a belt.

Different mowing conditions require different set-up adjustments..

In very heavy, tall grass, you need the rear much higher than when doing finer work.
The mower must be able to toss the cuttings out quickly in heavy/tall grass/weeds/saplings..
There are times I have the Rear more than 6" higher than the front on my 6' Bush Hog, when in big stuff and almost level in short.thin stuff..
Mine is a Pull-Type..use it on a '52 JD "B"..
