WD45 power steering problem - need help

I've got a 55 WD45 with a charlyn power steering unit.

Problem I'm having is that there is a "dead" spot ONLY in the straight forward position. Once I get it off of center(straight forward), it no longer catches. At first I though this might be a power steering problem, as it steers like the tractor is off. However, after some thought, if it were the power steering wouldn't it catch every time that position on the steering wheel came around? I do know that sitting in the dead spot I lost all fluid, where it had held fluid for several months prior to that, so there is something wrong with the box. Could it be the bearings in the box?

Because of the single spot stick, I'm pretty sure it's not the steering joints, but this tractor once had a loader on it...I'm beginning to wonder if the problem might be in the front bolster? I guess that wouldn't explain the fluid loss, but I could have multiple problems.

Does anyone have experience with this? I'm at a loss here, and don't want to waste my time and money chasing something that's not wrong.
