WD front wheel wobble correction?

What are the most likely causes of front wheel wobble on a narrow front WD? The wheel bearings are proper. Thanks

check the set screw on the front between the front wheels, and the bearings in the shaft up to the gearbox.

(quoted from post at 09:41:41 05/28/14) check the set screw on the front between the front wheels, and the bearings in the shaft up to the gearbox.

Just curious, but what does that set screw do? I saw it there but didn't know what it does.

locks the spindles on the shaft ,its on a keyway and thru the years gets loose on the key. I have tightened that bolt up on several tractors and it fixed the wobble

You may also find the 2 bearings on the steering gearbox input shaft bad. That was the problem with dads WD45.

Take a GOOD look at the bottom bearing nest to that bolt there talking about above. On my sons WD, the bearing is there, but its loose.

Do you mean where the bearing rides on the spindle??? usually have to flatten the spindle out cause it has grooves in it from the bearing. and then just shim it back to tight. what part is loose on yours?

Im talking about the bearing at the bottom of the steering post. AFTER you take out the spindles that hold the wheels, at the bottom end of the steering post is a bearing. Its in there, but its way loose.

there should be shims under the bolt that hold the spindle assembly on the shaft to remove play, and then the setscrew on the front holds it to the key.

We didn't see any shims when we took it off. The spindle assembly fits tight enough. Its just that the bearing that goes around the inner shaft that the keyway 1/2 way fits into is bad.

Had the same problem on our WC 1937.
All of the problems mentioned needed attention AND the wheel bearings were worn beyond just needing take up.
Fixed the loose pin in the worm gear, replaced the really shot lower spindle bearing, replaced the wheel bearings and made sure the races fit tight on the spindles, shimmed the lower nut on the spindle to snug up the bearing and all was good. No more Death Wobble.
