Engine (foot) Clutch Adjustment

Our WD foot clutch has a lot of excessive movement before it engages. The adjustment rod is screwed all the way out to the end of the threads. We have checked all the linkages, taken the covers off and checked the new clutch plates, new throw-out bearing. This play was there when it was bought and can"t figure out how to eliminate it.

One important thing is that the throwout bearing moves back away from the fingers, maybe 1/8". The distance can be called "free play". That phrase can also describe the movement of the clutch pedal from rest, until you feel the resistance of the bearing starting to push on the fingers. One to two inches. It will vary on different machines.

The other important thing is that the clutch disengages enough that you can shift easily without grinding gears.

Usually the fingers are adjustable. That needs to be done before the tractor is put back together. Any external adjustment depends on the internal being correct.

These are generalities. I don't remember any particulars with the WD/WD45.

As long as you have "free play" (throwout bearing is backing away from the fingers) and you can shift OK, you're OK.
