WD won't stay running

Last week, I bought a WD that had been sitting a few years. I basically rebuilt the ignition system (new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points, condenser, coil). Also, I put new manifold gaskets on, as the old ones were leaking, so it was not creating vacuum through the carb. Now that that is all taken care of, when I try to fire up the tractor, it will only start if I put my hand over the intake of the carb, and will then only run for a few seconds and die. I did clean out the carb and put new gaskets and a needle and seat in it. I know it is getting fuel to it, when I pull the plug on the bottom fuel runs out in a steady stream. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what it could be?

When you have good spark but start and quick stalls, and choke helps some, check fuel delivery, may be stuck or heavy float or clogged fuel tap, screens, line, etc

I will check the float. I also wanted to add that if I just use the choke on the tractor, it does not help. It only works if I completely choke it out by hand.

While you are checking the Float, double check the bottom passage that flows fuel to the "Power Screw".

That passage accumulates find sediment and can be blocked.
You can un-screw the Power Screw (take it out) and tease a wire up into it, with the fuel on and get it fairly well open (if fuel flows)..

It must have a Distributor ( Battery Ignition).

Try bypassing the ignition switch..it may be that switch is bad..

You are aware of the typical "Cold-Nature" of an Allis..? They often do need a quick hand on the Choke, until they warm up a little..

Did you tear apart the carb completely? Sounds like the main jet is plugged. I have had an 8N ford and my honda motor on my tiller behave the same way. In both cases the main jet was plugged. On a zeinth carb, remove the needle or cap on the bottom left of the carb (mounted position) and the main jet can then be unscrewed. I usually use fishing line or plastic string trimmer line to clean the jets out.

I know the ignition switch is not the problem, as I just replaced it (and the tractor is getting spark). I also took the carb apart and cleaned it, and the main jet is not clogged up. I will try adjusting the float this weekend and see if that helps anything. Is there anything else I should check while in the carb? It is a marvel-schebler.
