Allis Chalmers 200

Im looking at a allis chalmers 200 thats forsale. Its in rough shape but runs good. Someone took the turbo off and swapped manifolds. Also has a different hydraulic pump that blocks where the tach hooks up so the tach doesnt work anymore. I dont know much about these tractors. If anyone could shed some light on them Id appreciate hearing it.

I'm thinking the tach drives off of the alternator on the 200. The 180 and 190 diesel were a non turbo engine, but the same cu. in. engine as the 200. I would question if the engine is correct in the 200. Maybe it is the correct hyd. pump and an incorrect block! Something to look into.

Don't know why some one would take the turbo off. The tach was driven off the alternator. Good chance it doesn't work any more anyways. The hydraulic pump is right below the alternator so what you're saying makes sense. The proper engine is a 2900 301 cu.in. The 185 received a 2800 301cu.in. Can't recall what the differences are. I want to say the compression may be a little higher on one. The 301 was very prone to cavitation. Ask when the coolant was last changed. Crack the oil drain bolt to check for A/F before the tractor is started. These tractors didn't come with a coolant filter, but if it has one, you're doing good, providing they were actually changed when it should have been. If there is no filter, then hopefully a quality A/F was used or SCA's were added. Test the transmission downhill. Most will pop out of 3rd, but the more worn ones will pop out of reverse and 2nd as well. It can be fixed, but the tractor has to be split. The later models (supposedly cost-reduced models) will have a gated Power Director, which is a blessing and a curse. They are great for inching, because of the grab handle beside. I've never driven a non-gated 200, but I imagine the throw of the handle is greater on the non-gated The gated PD must be kept adjusted. You'll ruin the low or high(or both) in a hurry if it's not adjusted correctly.

If you purchase the tractor I have a 200 that I just got and am parting out call me at (785)966-2739 days or (785)966-0038 eves and I do ship parts

Odd that someone went to the effort to install a different hydraulic pump. And with the alternator-tach drive right there also. Check the serial number on the bell housing and make sure the tractor is a 200. Also, a true 200 will have 2 spin on engine oil filters right behind the hydraulic pump. If it only has one, something else is incorrect also.
