Allis G oil pressure

Started the G today . low oil pressure 0 to low normal. Changed gauge, no help, changed filter and oil, now mid normal Whew...

Hope someone more knowledgeable than I chimes in, but I'd think it would still be good to more definitely identify the cause of the temporary low-oil-pressure problem. I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to drop the pan and clean off the oil pump's intake screen? Could the oil pressure regulating valve have been sticking? Could the line to the oil pressure gauge have been plugged?

G's can be prone to loosing prime on the oil pumps from sitting or a rough trailer ride.

Also be sure the tube is still there and seated well in the filter housing, and the filter is of the cotton packing style instead of the pleated paper ones many sell. You also have to remember these engines are only filtering bypassed pressure so the reading on the gauge can sometimes be misleading.

I would check everything. The oil pump is high in relation to the oil level. It's mounted on the rear end of the camshaft (front on a G) and has to pull the oil up.

Unlike the B's and C's the G can lose oil pressure from bad crankshaft bearings. The oil pressure is controlled by a relief valve if the bearings are all good. The pressure is accessible from the outside on the carburetor side close to the flywheel end by a hex plug.

Here is a coupla pictures to where and what to look for.

I grabbed the wrong picture to show the plug. This is a better one even though I didn't find a close up.

If I am able to get out to the shed this afternoon I'll get a close up on an old engine block.

Well the tractor has been sitting all winter, and when I started her up the oil pressure was going to low normal then to 0 then back to low normal. I thought I read that not to use wix filters, I don"t know who made NAPA which I put in. But could I still have problems even with the good pressure reading on the gauge? Russ
