this all worked for me, and i need to tell everyone. 6 months ago we bought a fully hydraulic loader to fit our d17. then the hard part. we got a pump and reseivor off a gleaner f at a salvage yard, custom made everything to mount and drive the pump. mounted the tank on the loader frame,then came the valves. northern hydraulic has a joystick valve that we mounted on a homemade bracket. i even plumbed another valve so i have live 2-way outlets on the back. finally got it all put together today and it all worked just like the plan. using salvage parts, new valves and hoses total cost was less than $800.

Nice when a plan comes together......did you machine a flange mount to match the holes in the front pulley? Have any pics?

Nice job. Good, clean installation of the joystick and the incoming lines, so they're not sticking out all in all directions. And I like your use of the existing mounting plate for the remote valve.

My hydraulic installations have improved a lot since I started using a hydraulic place that doesn't even sell standard length hoses, just makes them up on the spot, to your length spec. Really hard to do a clean install when you use standard length hoses, in 6 inch increments.

One tip- check the tightness on those bolts holding the pump and pump mount from time to time- with extensions like that, any mis-alignment from a loose bolt is magnified, and it doesn't take much to send your coupler flying off into the brush.

everything is working good so far. i plumbed a single valve feeding through the return line for outlets on the back. i might find the supply hose for the arms too, that way i will have %100 live hyd. i am very happy with the finished product so far.

Like JMS, I"m curious how you hooked the shaft to the crankshaft pulley.
Except for the very early ones, D-17s have 4 each 7/16" tapped holes in the crankshaft pulley spaced 2-3/4" apart. I did a little searching on e-bay and found a Ford adapter that fits the D-17 pulley and a Ford 3/4" shaft the right length to come out the front bolster for less than $70 for both.
Haven"t got mine done yet but I think it"s gonna work really slick.

this is similar to what i made. i took the front pulley off and put it on tje bench, cut a circle out of 1/4 steel, then found center and welded a pipe nipple. i found a piece of pipe to go inside i drilled and pinned it so that way it has a slight amount of give, i then put a wire through it for safety, i figure that will allow for my "not even close to perfect" measurements. for the most part everything was built out of scrap.

How many GPM is the pump?

i am not sure on the gpm, i do know it will lift a 1500# bale to stack it two high. naturally with more rpm you have more pressure. in fact on the combine, the hydraulic system has an oil pressure switch that wont allow hydraulic pressure without increasing engine rpm.

Any hydraulic system I have ever worked on has a relief spool that controls the maximum pressure and the Volume is controlled by RPM.
