WD45 Clutch shaft + more

I bought a 56-WD45 a couple years ago to use for a small deer food plots & some snow removal. It's been a great tractor but has me wondering where I should stop fixing. I started the tractor one super cold morning -20 and went inside to let it warm up. When I came back 15min later the tractor had no transmission, hydraulics, or pto. I talked with some great AC folks & all thought it was center of clutch went bad. I pulled engine and the clutch was good but clutch shaft was broke at gear for belt pulley just ahead of torque tube. I have now separated torque tube from transmission housing & I found broke hand clutch collar (brass) & it looks to me there is only one shim left in clutch. I'm not sure but when separating housing the shaft that goes into transmission looks like it has some pretty serious chips on interior gear on transmission shaft? The outside spiral gear looks great but the inside maybe 3-4 gear? has rounded chipped corners. lastly the seal/bearing? on bottom of transmission housing is leaking 80-90. Can I change the gears & seal from outside & is it pretty easy? Rebuild the transmission clutch? I will replace the collar. JMS/MN if you read this I'd sure like to talk to you there are many towns you mention I live near including Belgrade, Willmar Atwater, ETC.

These tractors are so plentiful, it would be much easier to just find another transmission and drop it in. I have seen complete ones for $100 or less before, was just at my local AC dealer"s boneyard, had 7 WD45s lined up 5 still had trannys in them. Also check ebay or post in the want ads here.

A little update. I have a used brass collar for hand clutch coming and the salvage guy treated me real fair. I've also learned the dogs or teeth on the transmission shaft are for third gear. Mine are rounded & chipped some, but after talking with some salvage folks the transmission shafts they have are not much better & they go for $175.00. Plus if I change input shaft I should really change the input collar for another $125 & I don't know how or the hassle of replacing. I don't know how difficult it would be to pull/replace these gears but my tractor never came out of gear & I've decided to put mine back in as is. It took 60 years to look this bad maybe I can get another 10. I'm also gonna put the hand clutch back in as is after cleaning it up some and of course changing hydro fluids. If needed I think I can remove the last shim to make it work if it pukes. I still question the leaking 80-90 from the seal and or bearing on the bottom of the transmission housing where the torque tube & transmission housing meet. If anyone could I'd really appreciate your response whether I can change bearing & seal that's leaking on the lower side of the transmission housing from the outside. I am a little overwhelmed with opening the top transmission and removing/replacing seals, forks and gears then putting back together and aligning again to work right. I sure wish I lived near an old Allis guy who I could show & BS with me about my tractor! Here in western MN there are some great AC folks that I have talked with & they helped me huge, but most tell me they never been this deep in their wd45. Most can't believe I twisted off clutch shaft and have never been in their tractor that far to fix them. Darn the luck for me but I will win & have it back together by frost out. Who knows maybe this is so I can someday I can help the kid that asks me how to fix their great grandpa's Allis & I'll be able to point them in right direction.
