Little Allis seats

I have a couple questions about CA, C , and B seats. First what material, and what color, were Allis C and B seats, made from? I am sure they didn't have the vinyls we have today. The picture of B tractors, at the factory, is in black and white, and the seats appear light colored. Also I would like to make my CA seat firmer and not sink down so much. Which needs changed, the shock or the spring?

I think the CA seat is a Monroe seat and takes the same spring as the Farmall Monroe seats that I am more familiar with. The spring can be had (or could have been once) in three different weight capacities. I have heard that all that is now available is the heavy spring. Some people put a football inside the spring and ad more air till it rides how they want it to.

The original B seats were covered in an olive drab waxed waterproof canvas. It was very similar, may actually have been the same, to the canvas used to cover seats in military Jeeps, trucks, etc. I imagine that it would be readily available from people who make reproduction cushions for military vehicles. My B was bought new by my Dad in 1948, the original cover succumbed to a nest of bees and he recovered it with brown naugahyde. I know it's not original but that's the way Dad had it, and that's how it will stay. You don't see very many with the original type material.

Paul and Zack! thanks for your input! I* really can live with an incorrect seat cover; being as I don't take them off the farm, but being as both the 48 C and 52 B needs their seats recovered, I wanted the color to be right. The CA squishes down all the way and is hard to use. That is unacceptable, with an otherwise good useable tractor. I am going to look for a stronger spring, but wondered if the shock was supposed to fully collapse. I weigh in at 210 lb's, but also am 6'2", so I don't consider my self a lard butt.

I know i had a real bouncy ride on my wd when the seat shock went out. The only thing left was the spring. I did some digging online and found a monroe shock that would work. I crossed that to the cheap Oreilly auto parts brand and now my seat has been a comfortable ride since then. Hopefully you can do the same for your CA.

I found a replacement Monroe spring, and shock on Stieners site, this afternoon. I did not order them, because there were no strength specifications, for the spring, as how much weight it was supposed to support. I hate to buy something, that turns out to be too weak.

I'm not sure if you have your original spring, but this is the shock number for it. Monroe LE 10002. I know Napa can get them. It's the front shock for a Willys Wagon/Panel 47-62 2WD and Jeepster 49-51. When i replaced the shock on my Wd i had to cut off the metal shroud that protects the shocks so the spring would work. Mine is an early wd though. Different shock than the one dor the CA. My shock is what takes my weight, the spring just helps the shock return to the original position.
