AC 190 diesel, very early serial# steering wheel/center cap

I was looking around on this site at the available steering wheels and center caps. I see 2 wheels listed, and I see 2 caps listed and I don't think either one is for my tractor.

I have a very early serial number 190. It was the 128th one built. The engine serial number for the diesel is a few numbers ahead but still under 200th one built.

Everything on the tractor is original, and it currently has 2300 hours on it. It sat outside and then sat in a very poorly constructed shed, then back outside for most of it's life.

The front grill has the sunburst AC logo, and so does the steering wheel center cap. It is not the steering wheel like you would find on a D series tractor. It is the deep dish 3 spoke wheel with clear plastic center cap with the logo inside. I have part of the original center cap. It has a full orange background and the AC diamond sunburst, similar to this.

I have taken pictures of what I have left and there isn't much. I measured the black diamond in the center and it is 7/8 inch square. I don't remember if I only had the A-C in the center, or had the A-C with the above words surrounding it. I would assume not, as I think it just mirrored what was on the front grill. I also can't remember if the background inside the sunburst was crème or clear. Here is what I have.

You can see just how fragile this thing has become. I touched it and the edge crumbled off.

If anyone knows if the center cap and wheel sold on this site are correct, let me know. I know the more common center had the newer A-C triangle logo. I also know my tractor is 100% correct and unmolested. My dad bought it new.

I saw a picture of a clear center cap somewhere online that had no logo inside it. If anyone had any documentation of what the original center logo looked like exactly, I could probably get a decal shop to make one for me.

Thanks

You are well ahead of me, as with a quick look, I can't find any cap on the parts site here!
I'm thinking the clear press/drive in cap was the same throughout the 190's.
I'm puzzled that your logo is so tiny. I thought they filled the cap.
Have you talked to Sandy Lake? Looks like you're almost neighbors!
Is that a straight 190(not an XT)? Either way, a neat thing to have. How does the rest of it look? Does everything work?
Best of luck.

I just went to AGCO parts. The guest user button wasn't there, so I found my old log in, and got in. I can't get any AC info. to come up! I get everything but!
Is it me, or my computer?

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it's a straight 190. It has low hours on it. I used it for some light flail mowing this past summer, but maybe only put 7 or 8 hours on it. The reason it only has 2300 hours on it is because it had a ton of problems from the time it was new and they were never solved. It has never had any transmission work done, or engine work. It has some blow by. The transmission does the typical stuff a 190 does. The rear handles to adjust the 3 pt hitch lower lift arms do not fold down. It has double bevel rims and up until last year, it had 1 original rear tire on it. The other original rear was sliced one week after the tractor was originally bought. It had a used 33 degree tire on the right side since the tractor had less than 10 hours on it from new. It's always been hard starting since new. Once it is running, it runs great and has a lot of torque and power. It doesn't overheat.

Here are the options this site lists for steering wheels.

Here is a center cap photo I pulled from an image search with the same pn.

Here is what I think the center cap should look like, to approximate scale...

I have yet to see another one. I thought there was a guy who posted under a name like skyhighballoon or something who had a 1965 190xt with the same center cap, but, that has been a LONG time ago. I might even have the wrong guy. It was the only other one I saw.

I have not tried Sandy Lake, but only because I am sure it does not exist in a parts book as anything other than a superseded number.

I just found this picture on tractor data of all places... It's too small for me to se the exact detail, but it has a cream background behind the sunburst diamond; and you can see how small the logo is.

I shouldn't have said the tractor was unmolested...

At one time, the traction booster gauge was leaking, so I took it apart, and found I couldn't service it. So, I did what anyone would do and made a new gauge face for it.

It's hard to make out the print, from the photo, but it says, "WEAR METER" at the top. The left grey shaded area says, "BRAND NEW" and the right shaded area says, "WORN OUT"

The needle is in the appropriate place.

2255.75 hours. I knew it was around 2300, but didn't remember it being that low. As you can see the general decay of all surfaces that were once shiny, is a problem. I've been sourcing parts and buying the and stockpiling them so that when I have time to restore it, I will be able to do it quickly and properly.

Have you ever been on nnalert discussion forum. You should post this topic over there and their should be answer for you from somebody.

I have seen some people having that problem with agcopartsbooks.com. I believe its a browser issue.

Now I got poofed. Yanno...

I had to work too much and missed to opportunity to call to check on parts, but for me to get poofed... what kind of message does that send?

This will get poofed, too, I am sure. Oh well. poof me also.
