WD what size of disk?

Been looking at a WD, has a wide front and a three point. Was wondering if it could pull a 10 foot disk? And about how much does a WD weigh with a wide front end? Thanks for any responses or other information about a WD.

10 foot not likely unless in sandy soil. At 34 HP and all maybe 8 foot at best

Tandem, not single disk? 8 foot is plenty. At home we had 15 foot single disk on WD, no duals. WD weight is maybe a bit under 4400 lbs.

JW,

my experience was with a D-14
it pulled an AC 8ft disk wheel disc fine,
but for a pickup disc I had an AC snap couple 7ft disc and that was plenty for the tractor,

it could pull the disc, but at the end anything much heavier than the 7ft would have made the front end too light to steer properly.
both of these disc were AC snap couple.
note: the AC snap couple wheel disc was hard to turn with the under belly hitch.

also if you go with a 3pt hitch disc, there is a big difference in the weight of brands of disc.

Taylorway, Athens, are heavy disc, you can pull them, but may be hard on the tractor to pickup.

I saw this ad in my local craigslist:
For sale AC 8ft snap coupling disc. Good condition will fit any snap coupling tractor. $750.00. Call 618-687-2278. Thanks

In spring if disking down corn stalks first time over probably, anytime after plowing no, not even with duals. Look for something like a John Deere KBA in either the wheel or drag versions with 6 blades on a side for total back gang cutting width of 7'6". Most populsr und used disks when they were made. Forget a mounted for field work, only for garden size plots. Then you would need front weights to hold front down in travel but then they would make it too hard to turn with no weight on back. That tractor would be about equal in what it could pull to a Farmall H or John Deere B. Sold as 3 plow but would not handle it, Uncle mile down road bought new outfit, 3 bottom and 3 bottom was laying in shed, Anough uncle a bit other way in different ground had WD 3-12" setup and would handle it in that ground, outfit burned in barn fire, Bought different WD and 3-14", could not pull it. And where he pulled the 3-12" I could also pull that same size with the John Deere B.

have a WD it wont pull my 10 ft hyd lift disk in plowed ground , it is a old deerborn really light for what it is , tractor has lots of power but no tracton , no weights but tires are filled & in great shape, but my farmall H pulls it with no problem in 3rd gear, less power but has lots more tracton , ive notice over the years Allis made lots of power great engine , but has a sorry lack of tracton in most older models like WD the WD-45 wasnt much inprovement ,

If your WD has "13x28" (14.9x28 Now) and it was a WD-45, you have a chance to pull a 10' disc over Once-Dragged plowed ground..

I have an IH #37 10' Disc I use but I have 14.9x28 Duals I use with it...ALWAYS in 3rd gear...
Way too much wheel slippage without the Duals..
If you have the old "12 inch" tires (13.6x28), better stay with an 8' Disc..
A WD has a good deal more power than a Late Styled JD "B",(unless you count 1st gear in the "B"), or maybe if the "B" had a "Power Block"..

Believe it or not I pulled a 15 foot batwing with mine allay but just clipping about 3 in off but a times she was talking really good

I pull a 10' Allis Disc with my WD in second gear on plowed ground. While I have a little slippage, it does an excellent job pulling it.

At one time, we pulled 2 8' discs (one behind the other, with a harrow behind them..ALWAYS in 3rd..

We ALWAYS went over new plowed ground with the JD "B" and "Soil Surgeon", to firm-up and smooth the soil.
The JD "B" steered much easier than the WD-45, for "first time over".
As a kid, we rode on that Soil Surgeon and rolled rocks on it if we found any..
Was a wonderful tool for preparing a nice seed-bed..

That"s why Allis used Snap Couple equipment. You can add nearly all the weight of the implement to the back wheels without lifting the implement.
WD"S and 45"s NEED ballast to do any heavy field work properly.
I know a guy that pulls a 8 foot SC mounted Allis disc with his CA at 26 HP.
He also pulls a 3-14 SC plow with it.
Here is an old pic of him with the disc.

Fluid (CaCl) was standard for any WD or WD-45 doing real Field-Work..
Even out Front tires are "Loaded"..

When a kid at home dad had a 8 ft. Case drag type tandem disk. It was all the WD wanted in plowed ground. Always disked in 2nd gear. Had 3-14 mounted plow that it could pull in most places. How would anyone stay in the seat in 3rd gear?
