WC RH Axcle, can't get pinion gear off

1938 WC rowcrop. Need to pull the drive gear (pinion as parts book calls it) off right hand axle to replace seals, put new brake drum as it is cracked. Have axles out of the rear end, had a gear puller on it and never could budge the gear. Put in my small 12 ton press yesterday and it will not move. DO I need to drill the gibb key out or can I use heat on the gear to warm it up?

I might be wrong, but weren't the early ones two piece and the later ones made together?

Not sure what you mean, on the other side, the gear came off real easy, was held on by a key in the shaft.

Didn't know you'd had the other side off. I have seen some that have had an axle broken before and ended up with a solid one and a two piece style.
You may find it will need more than most 12 ton presses will put out. A bit of heat shouldn't hurt anything.
