Wet sleeved and 2 common problems is a crack between the sleeves at the top of the block or the 0-ring seals going bad. Both of which is not big deal. Nice little tractors but a pain to get on. have 4 of them or should I say I have parts of 4. 2 runners and 2 parts machines
 
We had a B and found aftermarket steps at steiners tractor. Helped getting on it. My buddies dad has it now. I don't think he could use it without the extra step.
 
If it is cracked between the sleeves at the top of the block is it repairable or do you need a new block ? Was thinking of freshening up the motor. It runs fairly decent now - a bit smokey though.
 
Cracks on the top between the sleeves are common and generally don't bother, the head gasket will seal it up. Cracks on the bottom end are not good.
 
Those cracks are no big deal and you can run it that way. As for smoking some fill in the blanks. If it sat a long time could be as simple as sticking rings which can be fixed with an ATF treatment
