WD With 38" Tires

Always been a Farmall guy, but baling last years heavy brome without live PTO had had me on the lookout for a different baler tractor than my old M.
Found a pretty honest WD that my cousin has, ran it a bunch wiping milo back in the day, and hasn't run much in the last 20 years since. Been sitting in the Quonset all these years.
Has like new Firestone 11.2 38's on back, stepped up from the factory rims.
Wondering what this will do to my first gear speed, for baling with an Oliver 620 square baler?
Any idea what road gear speed would be? Been so long, and we used to haul it around behind pickup, with a dolly for the front end, so don't recall how fast it went.
It's a late model WD, at least I think, has curved shifter, like WD45.
What to look for on these things for trouble spots?

Should have something like a 12.4X28 on it so yes speed will be upped some. How much I can not say. But if you use 1st gear to bale with should not be to fast unless you have big windrows. If it sat that long I would do an ATF treatment to the engine to make sure the rings are freed up and cylinders well lubed before starting it up. Also look on the right hand side of the engine for a bolt on plate. It is has one it is a WD engine if it does not you may have found an early WD45

53 was the last year for WD, which had a curved shifter. They also started the 45"s in 53. Serial # 146607 and up would be a 45. Below is a WD.

By my calculations, it looks like the tractor will
go approx 15% faster with the 38" tires. It doesn't
appear that this should have much impact on your
ability to bale in first if the tractor is running
reasonably well.

Narrow 38s were a factory option on some AC tractors, WC for sure, I think WD as well. I doubt that any gear changes were made, so ground speed would be a bit faster.

I don"t think WC ever came with 38"s - there was a factory option with 36"s and they did have a different gear set to compensate for tire dia. If I recall the 36 inch gear set was same as RC???

38"s I think were option on WD/WD45 but I don"t think they had but a single gear set.

Could install the bevel pinion and ring gear from the WD45 Diesel to bring the speed down. But I don"t think it is in the parts catalog that way.

I had an Oliver 620 baler. That is a very heavy baler!! I have a feeling it is going to shove that little WD around pretty good... especially if you have uneven or hilly ground.

Thanks guys, I think I'll add it to my fleet! Started out my mechanic career at an
Allis dealer, so got a soft spot for orange!

Baled a lot last summer with a Farmall H, and got along ok with it, no problems with baler pushing it around, so would think a WD will handle it.
